For a film that was meant to play well with older audiences, this figure might be seen as reasonable, but considering the movie's colossal budget of $295 million excluding marketing, it's a far cry from what was needed.
While box office pundits have been criticizing the film’s underwhelming box office, the release comes at a time when box office revenues are still recovering from the 2020 pandemic. Additionally, July 4th weekend isn’t historically a good weekend to gauge box office returns on as most Americans are out watching fireworks or grilling burgers.
The film is also slated to be released on Disney+ and if I wasn’t such a big fan of the franchise I probably would’ve waited to view it myself for pennies on the dollar instead of paying the exorbitant movie ticket prices.
