Indiana Jones And The Dial Of Destiny: Everything To Know About The Upcoming 5th Film

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is an upcoming American action adventure film starring Harrison Ford as the archaeologist Indiana Jones in the fifth installment of the Indiana Jones film series. The film is directed by James Mangold, who co-wrote the script with Jez Butterworth and John-Henry Butterworth.

The film stars Harrison Ford, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, and Mads Mikkelsen.

Spielberg was to direct the film, but stepped down in 2020, with Mangold taking his place. Filming began in June 2021, and concluded in February 2022. Shooting locations include across the United Kingdom in England and Scotland, Italy and Morocco. This film will be the fifth and final installment of the Indiana Jones film series.

Fans believe there’s a good chance the movie will be good considering that James Mangold is directing. His filmography is pretty solid, and even though Spielberg is a legend, it’s for the best that he’s not directing the fifth film seeing as he wasn’t all that interested in producing 4th one.

There is also consensus among fans that Disney is going to want to expand this series and move away from Ford. It’s just too big of a franchise to move away from. So, will they just recast Indy for Indy 6? Go the animated route? Do a Young Indiana Jones spin off? Try handing the torch again? It is hard to believe Indiana Jones 5 would be the last time we hear of the franchise, but bringing Ford back after this film seems unlikely.

The film appears to be about time travel and the trailer showcases a de-aged Harrison Ford as Indy back in his glory days of archaeology and adventures. The film is scheduled for release on June 30, 2023.

The trailer features a couple of key shots of Ford being de-aged to look like himself 40 years ago. Sure, we've seen examples of this technology in movies like "The Irishman," as well as with Luke Skywalker in "The Mandalorian" season 2. But these first choice shots of Ford in this trailer are on another level. The still images from the trailer make it look as though we're just seeing the actor in his prime, when Steven Spielberg was directing him in "Raiders of the Lost Ark." It's uncanny.

Multiple rumors have circulated regarding the new movie. Indiana Jones 5 is the latest production to be hit with a number of reports that test screenings for the swan-song of Harrison Ford as the intrepid archeologist have been “overwhelmingly negative.” However, director James Mangold has addressed the rumors of disappointment head on, debunking the whole thing by simply saying there have not even been any screenings of the movie.

The rumors of someone else putting on Indy's hat were also previously debunked by the film's director, James Mangold, who plainly said that "no one is 'taking over' or replacing Indy:"

“One more time. No one is ‘taking over’ or replacing Indy or donning his hat nor is he being “erased” thru some contrivance— and he never was, not not in any cut or script — but trolls will troll — that’s how they get their clicks."
