Sports: The U.S. Open Tennis Experience

Arthur Ashe Stadium

Arthur Ashe Stadium is a tennis stadium at Flushing Meadows–Corona Park in Queens, New York City. Part of the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, it is the main stadium of the US Open tennis tournament and has a capacity of 23,771, making it the largest tennis stadium in the world.

The stadium which was once uncovered, now features a retractable roof so audience members can view games in inclement weather.

Food

There are a variety of different foods, restaurants, and vendors available. One notable vendor is San Matteo which offers wood fired pizza! Lobster Rolls are also readily available at a variety of vendor stands.

How much money does the 2021 US Open winner get?

The men's and women's singles champions will each earn $2.6 million in 2022. Each was paid $2.5 million in 2021, so the USTA increased the winner's share by $100,000.

That said, the prize money increased across the board for each finishing stage. The runner-up in 2022 will make $50,000 more than the runner up from 2021; the semifinalists will make $30,000 more; and even those that made the initial draw of 128 will make $5,000 more than they did last year.

novelty cocktail - Honey Deuce

The “Honey Deuce” is the signature cocktail of the U.S. Open. As the official drink of the US Open, the Honey Deuce is a refreshing take on a raspberry lemonade. The honeydew melon ball garnish perfectly replicates tennis balls adding to the novelty of the drink. Vodka, Raspberry, Lemonade and Melon, all the right ingredients for a citrusy experience.

The directions for making your very own Honey Deuce can be found here:

  1. Fill a chilled highball glass with ice and add Grey Goose vodka.

  2. Top with lemonade and then add Chambord.

  3. Garnish with skewer of honeydew melon balls (note: place honeydew melon in freezer beforehand. Then, to create melon balls, use a melon baller).
